Bien le bonjour d’Oaxaca

Cette journée d’arrêt de toute activité a été particulièrement meurtrière, quatre morts et un grand nombre de blessés par balles, ou comment se défend la dignité de tout un peuple. Les barricades dans les colonies et sur toutes les voies d’accès au centre ville ont bien tenu malgré les escadrons de la mort et surtout les troupes de choc de policiers municipaux en civil fortement armés face à des gens qui les affrontaient avec des pierres. Ce sont les municipalités des environs, encore contrôlées par le PRI, le parti révolutionnaire institutionnel d’Ulises Ruiz, qui ont recruté et armés ces tueurs et qui sont directement responsables des violences et des assassinats.

La municipalité de Santa Lucía del Camino où un jeune journaliste nord américain d’Indymédia a trouvé la mort, et la municipalité de Santa María Coyotepec où il y eut deux morts et dix huit blessés ont joué un rôle déterminant dans cet affrontement contre les membres de l’Assemblée populaire. L’ambassadeur des États-Unis ment en parlant d’un échange de coups de feu. Rueda Pacheco, dirigeant du syndicat enseignant, ment en parlant de groupes violents et en se gardant bien de dire d’où viennent les tueurs. L’État a désormais le prétexte qu’il attendait pour rétablir l’ordre et l’État de droit comme il dit si bien. Ulises Ruiz joue-t-il son va tout dans une ultime confrontation meurtrière ou a-t-il l’aval de l’État pour provoquer des morts en vue de l’intervention de l’armée et de la police préventive fédérale ?

L’Assemblée populaire des peuples d’Oaxaca n’a pas jusqu’à présent répondu à la provocation en s’armant, ce qui justifierait l’envoi des troupes, et c’est les mains nues qu’elle garde les barricades et qu’elle fait face, avec une vaillance admirable, aux escadrons de la mort et aux sbires du PRI. Les familles ou les amis restent auprès des blessés et veillent à ce qu’ils soient soignés par des médecins et transportés par les ambulances rouges de l’APPO, les ambulances de la protection civile sont fliquées et l’hôpital n’est pas sûr. La croix rouge, nous dit-on, refuse d’intervenir sur ordre du gouverneur déchu. Les disparitions sont nombreuses, la personne qui avait été enlevée ce matin a été retrouvée en prison.

Heureusement la radio université fonctionne, ce qui permet de coordonner les mouvements, de renforcer une barricade qui montre des signes de faiblesse par exemple, de prévenir de la venue des troupes de choc, ainsi s’est organisé tout un réseau d’entraides, les habitants de Saachila, une commune en résistance, se sont regroupés pour envoyer des équipes afin de prêter main forte aux habitants d’Oaxaca, à San Bartolo Coyotepec les habitants se sont retrouvés pour venir en aide à leurs voisins de Santa María Coyotepec.

La nouvelle s’est répandue rapidement et la capitale réagit, des barricades ont été élevées à proximité de l’hémicycle Benito Juárez, nous dit-on. Le bruit court que le ministère de l’intérieur est occupé par ceux qui se trouvaient devant le Sénat. C’est le matin, j’apprends qu’Abascal, le ministre de l’intérieur, vient de donner l’ordre à la troupe d’intervenir. La complicité entre le gouverneur tueur et le gouvernement fédéral est donc bien une complicité objective, l’assassin avait l’aval de l’État pour lancer ses troupes de choc contre les habitants. La ville est bien décidée à résister et toutes les voies d’accès sont hermétiquement fermées par des barricades.

OAXACA, Mexico (Reuters) - Thousands of riot police backed by helicopters
and armored trucks broke up burning barricades to seize Mexico's popular
tourist city of Oaxaca on Sunday, firing water cannons to disperse leftist
protesters.

In the city's main square, hundreds of activists carrying metal poles and
sticks braced for a showdown with the police, who gathered at the four
corners of the plaza holding riot shields and wearing gas masks.

Hundreds more demonstrators surrounded six busloads of unarmed police in
another part of the city, forcing them to flee and setting fire to the
buses.

Mexico sent federal forces to seize the picturesque colonial city, which
striking teachers and activists have occupied since May to demand the
state governor's resignation, after gunmen thought to be local police shot
dead a U.S. journalist and two other people on Friday.

Protesters fled as armored trucks, with V-shaped plows and flanked by riot
police, moved on the city center, destroying barricades of burning tires,
rocks and old furniture.

OAXACA, Mexico - Federal police armed with assault rifles and riot shields stormed this normally picturesque tourist destination Sunday, bypassing barricades and touching off fierce street battles as they tried to end five months of protests and violence.

Officers in black helmets entered the city from several sides, reinforced by armored vehicles, trucks mounted with high-pressure water cannons and bulldozers. Helicopters roared overhead.

Police marched up to a metal barrier blocking the historic city center — which has served as home base for the protests since late May — but pulled back as protesters armed with poles and sticks attacked them from behind, hurling burning tires.

Protesters could be seen readying Molotov cocktails and other homemade bombs, but had yet to use them against police, who fired tear gas canisters. The area filled with black smoke from burning cars. Some protesters used syringes to pierce their arms and legs, then paint signs decrying the police in blood.

What began as an article about the murders of Oaxacan protesters and a New York journalist changed as La Jornada is reporting that the invasion of Oaxaca by Mexican Federal Preventative Police (PFP) is happening RIGHT NOW. According to Radio Universidad, (reporting live over the internet) PFP have advanced to area around the Oaxaca City center and PFP elements wearing balaclavas over their faces are invading private houses and arresting protest leaders.

At 3:53 Oaxaca time, La Jornada reported that PFP elements have reached the Historic Center of Oaxaca City, while all day Oaxacans have been reporting confrontations with police and "gangs loyal to (Vicente Fox)."

At 4:10, Radio Universidad was asking for people in Central Oaxaca to report whether the town center was occupied by Federal Police. They were also asking people at the barricades not to fall into violent provocations, and to move any non-strategic barricades around Radio Universidad to "defend the voice of the people."

They also said that, anyone who is willing to risk it, could put sugar in the gas tank of the PFP tanks taking down the barricades. They also said that the tires cuold be slashed on the cars carrying people, whether uniformed or not, who come to attack barricades and protest centers.


UPDATE: Radio University is saying that armed groups dressed as civilians are heading towards the "University City" neighbhorhood where the Radio his to attack the radio station. An announcer responded "We are ready to die here... fighting for our children... in defense of our autonomy... in defense of liberty and justice." They also report that around forty people are being detained where a PFP helicopter landed to arrest them. Others have reportedly been kidnapped by people who have not clearly identified themselves whether they are police or not. Radio Universidad is warning Oaxacans not to move around Oaxaca alone, but in organized groups. The wife of one disappeared man says that a truck with the Televisa logo were in communication with the kidnappers, though it wasn't clear to her whether they had been police.

At 6:25 Eastern Daylight Savings Time, Radio Universidad is reporting the the Canal 9 television station, currently run by protesters, is under attack.

At 6:36 EDST, Radio Universidad is reporting that protesters in some places have reported live rounds fired by PFP elements.

At 6:46 they are announcing that an ambulence has been seen transporting PFP forces.

As the PFP marched on the Oaxaca town center, a march was organizing in "University City" neighborhood to reinforce the defenses of Radio Universidad and march toward the town center to defend it. At 4:55 police were heard attacking the march, causing a panicked cry to ring out on live on Radio Universidad, where announcers asked people not to physically touch the PFP to avoid violent physical confrontations.

Protesters have organized a demonstration at the Mexican Embassy (1911 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW,Washington, DC) on Monday, October 30, 5:00 PM. In New York City protests are being held continualy at the Mexican Consulate.

Oaxacans are calling people who can make it to come to Oaxaca, a march is organized in Mexico City, and people around the world are called to protest in front of Mexican Embassies and Consulates at 6:00 PM on Monday, October 30. Zapatistas have also issued a call urging solidarity with the movement in Oaxaca.

OAXACA, Mexico (AFP) - One protester was killed by gunfire as Mexican police with riot gear, armored vehicles and helicopters occupied downtown Oaxaca, the epicenter of a five-month teachers' strike, demonstrators said.

"Jorge Alberto Lopez Beranal, a participant in the protest, was murdered by a firearm from the federal police," said Gustavo Adolfo Lopez, a protest spokesman.

Two women were also wounded by gunshots, he said.

Protesters set tires and cars alight in narrow streets approaching the downtown square in last-ditch but futile attempts to block police from retaking the city of 60,000, 450 kilometers (280 miles) from the capital.

President Vicente Fox on Saturday ordered the "immediate surrender" of Oaxaca held by a coalition of dozens of leftist groups, who advised the protesters to avoid confronting police.

However, some did not heed the call and confronted police at the barricades, resulting in about 50 arrests, protest leaders said
